Dog Food Calculator Guidelines
The Dog Food Calculator helps you estimate the right portion size for your dog. It uses proven nutrition guidelines to provide accurate feeding suggestions.
To use the calculator, you need to know your dog’s ideal weight the weight your dog should be, not necessarily their current weight.
You also need to check the calorie content of the dog food you’re using, which is usually listed on the food package.
The calculator then uses your dog’s metabolic weight to give you an approximate daily serving size.
The Dog Food Calculator is meant only for adult dogs — it should not be used for puppies, pregnant dogs, or nursing females.
- Small breeds are usually considered adults at 9–12 months.
- Medium breeds reach adulthood at about 12–14 months.
- Large and giant breeds may not be fully grown until 1–2 years, depending on the breed, so they shouldn’t be fed adult portions until then.
